Diverse Heroes for My Students

My students need books with diverse characters and backgrounds to enrich their reading and enhance their cultural awareness.

My Students

My third graders are so amazing! Each day they come to school excited to learn. One of their favorite times of the day is reading. One student described reading as a time to travel to another land and become someone else. They inspire me every day with all of their wisdom.

My third graders come from various backgrounds and family dynamics.

Several of my students receive special education services, reading and math support, or social skills assistance. There are also many students who receive free and reduced lunch. Regardless of their home life, my third graders come to school ready to discover new things everyday.

My Project

My 3rd grade students are in need of diverse books about heroes from around the world. I am requesting diverse books by authors from various cultures about characters from various cultures. Through this project, my third graders will be able to read stories about heroes like Malala Yousafzai, Wilma Rudolph, and Harriet Tubman.

It’s important for my students to read engaging stories with diverse main characters that they are able to relate to.

I have selected books that represent cultures from around the world that will engage my students in deep conversations and enrich their cultural awareness. Please help me bring diverse books into my students hands and hearts.
