My Project

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to the education system, leading to disruptions in learning and exacerbating existing learning gaps among students. Diverse books hold immense potential to not only engage students but also promote empathy, critical thinking, and cultural awareness, ultimately bridging the learning gaps that have emerged due to the pandemic. Diverse books capture the attention of students by presenting relatable characters and stories from various backgrounds. For 4th and 5th graders, reading about characters who share similar experiences or come from different walks of life can make literature more relatable and engaging. This engagement is vital in closing learning gaps as it ignites a passion for reading and learning. Students who are excited about the material are more likely to invest time in independent reading, leading to improved literacy skills and overall academic growth.
