Diverse Classroom Library and Projects!

Help me give my students books that are demographically inclusive! I do not have access to a color printer for fun projects and making documents/decorations attractive or welcoming. The whole department has one black and white printer.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Teaching seniors is a blessing. I get help and be a part of a transition from adolescence into young adult citizens. Every year, I have students come into my classroom that are discouraged and want to drop out. They don't believe in themselves and it breaks my heart to see! I work all year to build my students' confidence. There was one student this past year who transferred into my class when we came back from the holidays because he dropped out of dual credit, and I want to share his story.

Immediately saw that he was showing symptoms of depression and his mom was in tears because he had lost his motivation for graduating, and school in general.

Throughout the remainder of the year, I worked extra hard to get him involved in the class and the novels that we read, and by the end of the year, he was engaged in reading the novels in class, and even outside of school! After the graduation ceremony, he told me that if it wasn't for me, he would have failed English class and not graduated. Literacy is important, and building my classroom library would help enforce it!

My Project

Students will feel safer in an environment with books about their specific demographics, as well as LGBTQ students. Teenagers want to be seen. This will help increase learning! All of the art supplies help with interactive learning and projects, which we do a LOT of in my class.

For Example, we will be creating posters, presentations, learning stations, and even make videos, podcasts, Socratic seminars, and more!

High school students love to get their creative juices flowing just as much as younger students, and a lot of students learn better hands on!
