I teach kindergarten students. This gives me a look at different ages, interests, and needs constantly throughout the day. I am trying to diversify my classroom library to include more books for my students of color!
My class consists of 20 amazing students.
Of these 20, we have an extremely diverse population! I am so excited to get books that represent all my kiddos!
My Project
My students are a diverse group of learners who are eager to learn. They come from many different cultures and have much to share. They often ask for more books, books that have characters that look like them. Books that show different cultures and communities. We all come from somewhere. We live in different communities with diverse beliefs, celebrations, and cultures. The books I chose will not only expose students to diverse cultures but will allow some students to see themselves in the stories.
Books allow children to experience life other than their own.
That's why these books are essential. They will help students grow and become accepting of others as well as opening their eyes to the diverse world of culture that surrounds them.
As children read, they will first learn and later remember what they have read. Reading culturally diverse books leads children to expand their thinking like never before.
