Thank you for letting me introduce you to my students! I work at a Title I school in southwestern Virginia. Our school is considered Title I due to extreme poverty. All of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Despite their challenges, my students come to school ready to learn.
My classroom is composed of many different backgrounds—my students speak English, Spanish, Somalian, Dari, and a little Haitian Creole.
Unfortunately, we have students in our classroom who experience homelessness, too. I strive to make the classroom the best possible environment to make this a "safe" place to learn!
For so long, it's been incredibly hard to find books that reflect all my learners. We have so many different cultures in my classroom, and so many great books- but often those books don't reflect everyone in my classroom.
By donating to this project, you're helping fund books that feature African-American protagonists, non-fiction books about sports heroes, and books with Hispanic lead characters.
It's so important that these books become the norm in my classroom.
I appreciate you helping round out my collection- ALL of my students will love reading these titles and discussing these characters!
