This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic, fun-loving, and resilient kids! They come from low-income households and have not had much experience outside of their neighborhoods. Despite the hardships of our school closure, they are still excited to learn online!
My students and I have embarked on the journey of distance learning.
This has not been an easy task since many of my students do not have easy access to internet or hotspots. Many of my students depend on worksheet packets and whatever materials they have at home. Despite the many hardships that most of them face, they are eager to work and learn from home!
My Project
It is never to early to start teaching children about loving oneself and their neighbors, no matter the skin color! I am asking for books that will teach about different cultures. Most of my students come from different cultures and need to be surrounded by books and characters that they can identify with when reading. My students are avid readers and love learning. These books will add to their understanding and compassion for all people.
This project will help my students continue their love of reading while teaching them about culture and loving all people.
The books I am asking for will help to cultivate open mindedness in my students and acceptance. They will also be able to read books that showcase different cultures and traditions. These books will help them to become open and understanding of different cultures and help them become kind and open-hearted adults!
As an example I will be able to use these books in lessons to help my students make connections. We will be able to read these books during a read aloud and then I will ask my students to make text to self connections. This is when they will be able to identify with the book. My students will also be able to make text to world connections. During these lessons we can look at issues globally and see what connections my students can make from the books we are reading to the world we live in!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
