Help me give my students three copies each of the NCSLMA Middle School Battle of the Books!! This will help us read, discuss, annotate and enjoy the books to help us prepare for our first competition!
My students are from the small town of Roanoke Rapids, NC located on the North Carolina/Virginia border. These sixth, seventh and eighth grade students come from a wide variety of ethnic and economic groups. Our school is a Title I and serves a minority population of about 40 percent. About 63 percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. The whole middle school will benefit from this project. It will provide books for the Battle of the Books competition team, but also be available for library check out for the rest of the school.
The books for this grant will provide our school with an opportunity to compete in the North Carolina Battle of the Books competition.
This will be our first ever team to compete! To prepare for and compete in the competition, students must read the predetermined list of books provided by the North Carolina School Library Media Association. In order to prepare, we need copies of the books for the students!
There are 22 books on the list of various genres and levels. I would like to provide the school with 3 copies of each book for our team to read, annotate and discuss.
My Project
The North Carolina Battle of the Books competition gives students an opportunity to read a diverse collection of books to compete against other teams in the region. Our team will be the first to compete from our school and district.
The diverse list of books includes a variety of levels, genres and topics to expose students to rich, award winning books!
Three copies of each title will give us the opportunity to read all of the books to prepare for the competition. Students will meet daily for a semester in the media center, as well as monthly as a school club.
