This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The kids at our inner-city school are incredibly diverse culturally and linguistically. I enjoy teaching in the World Language department because my students love learning, making connections with different cultures, communities and their own identities. The best part of the job is building strong relationships with my students and watching them grow up from 8th grade to 12th grade!

Other stats about us:

-We received an “A” for diversity from the Niche website

-We are a Title I school where 90% of my students qualify for free lunch.

-We are an IB School, with 85% of students participating in the IB Exams.

-Our attendance is above 90% on average, with my 8th graders occasionally achieving a 100% attendance.

My Project

This project will be used to create a library for our Spanish Department. It will be used to get students interested in exploring language via beautiful stories from Latin America, Latinos/Hispanics in the United States and other communities as well. Most books in this project are bilingual, while others are entirely in Spanish or written mostly in English with some Spanish expressions sprinkled in. We are excited to add authentic texts in our classes that will excite our students with varying language abilities!

All students in our school will be able to read these books, not just the students who are taking Spanish classes!
