Diverse Books That Discuss Race and Racism to Promote Acceptance
Help me give my students books about race and racism. I recently came across another educator named Brittany Smith. She has provided an excellent list of diverse books that promote acceptance.

My Students
My students come from all over the world! We are fortunate to be in a shadow's distance to a major university which provides us the opportunity for our students to learn alongside a very international and diverse group of friends. It also means that we have an ever changing level of abilities and expectations within our classroom walls.
A typical day in my classroom involves a lot of movement and discussion.
We are an active group and are constantly exploring the curriculum through experimentation and personal interaction with the world!
My Project
Smith's interview in an article found on twitter included a list of diverse books that touch on the topics of race and racism. I have really been inspired by her list and everything that is going on in our country, and I want my students to both see themselves in the literature we read and understand the experiences of classmates who may not look like them.
This set of books will help me prepare our students for their lives in the real world.
We can dive into topics that are tricky for some people. I want our students to be comfortable talking about race and racism. My motto on my website is "All Are Welcome," and I want my students to reflect that same belief.
In order to help my students get to that belief, we need to show them different experiences of others. This set of books allows our students to be exposed to those tricky topics and not avoid them. These books will also give them the tools needed to help promote an accepting society.
