Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in Northern California. I teach 45 energetic first graders from Spanish speaking homes. The majority qualify for the free/reduced price food program. Some come from difficult circumstances such as broken families, poverty, health issues, learning disabilities, and language/cultural barriers.

My bilingual and biliterate students come to class excited and eager to participate and become 21st century learners. Each student brings their unique style of learning that enhances our class community.

My Project

These books will add a diversity to my classroom library with books that are culturally relevant.

These books will give my students the opportunity to read books that have characters that look like them and represent other cultures in their own language.

Children love to see themselves represented in the book characters. My students need to be exposed to different cultures and ethnicities in order to relate to them and understand the world globally. It is important that books represent people of various skin colors and cultures that reflect our world.
