Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Students are navigating challenges that are difficult to overcome. Books provide an opportunity for kids to learn and grow as people. Stories stay with children as they try to find their place in the world.
Now more than ever, students need to see themselves and others reflected in the stories that we read.
Students need to personally connect to books and need to learn about others through diverse books. Diverse books help children from various backgrounds, races, and abilities feel seen and valued. Representation matters because it fosters self-esteem and a sense of belonging. It teaches them to understand and appreciate people who may be different from themselves. This can break down stereotypes and promote inclusivity.
Books offer not only a chance to learn new things but also a safe space to explore emotions, gain perspective, and even see parts of themselves in characters facing struggles. Stories can act as mirrors or windows, allowing children to connect with experiences they can relate to or develop empathy for others. This project allows students to learn more about themselves and our diverse world.
