Diverse Books for Diverse Students

My students need diverse books. They come from a variety of backgrounds and need to see themselves represented in the books they read, as well as social-emotional learning through books.

My Students

My students are creative, hard-working, and have infinite potential. They come from a high poverty background, and many have difficult lives at home, which I cannot control. However, at school I can ensure that they have a safe, positive and consistent environment for learning. We constantly focus on having a positive attitude and a growth mindset in my classroom because above all else, I want my students to have the ability to persevere through challenges in the classroom and in Life.

My Project

These diverse books will be available to my students to read at all times. Seeing that diverse people make such a big impact on our culture is important for them! Kids need to feel included in all aspects of the classroom, and seeing themselves represented in the books they're reading helps them to feel that way.

They deserve to see themselves represented in the book characters that they're reading about.

Diverse books create engagement and a love for learning that may not be there without representing all student groups.

Students also need to have books that help them learn different social-emotional behaviors. Kindness, acceptance, and friendliness are all things that we need to encourage every day in our students!
