My Students
We are a diverse school with many English Language Learners. Our students are passionate about learning and need access to materials that can allow them to meet their personal and educational goals.
The library is critical in allowing students to have access to materials that will allow them to succeed in their educational careers.
While our students are young, we want to encourage their natural curiosity by providing access to high interest fiction and nonfiction materials that are accessible to them as they learn to read. We also want to provide the materials and programs that will encourage them to find information as they move from learning to read to reading to learn in upper elementary school.
My Project
My students need diverse books to meet their diverse needs. This project is requesting a variety of fiction and nonfiction books including Swing it, Sunny, Little i, Creepy Pair of Underwear, Why Am I Me?, Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, Mighty Jack and the Goblin King, and Red Cloud: A Lakota Story of War and Surrender. These books are about topics that are interesting to my students and are on varied reading levels to meet their educational needs.
Many of our upper-grade students stop reading and checking out books as they move from the phase of learning to read to the phase of reading to learn.
The books in this project are about topics that are interesting to upper-grade students. There are challenging books for some of our advanced readers. There are also graphic novels and nonfiction for some of our developing readers. Many of the books feature diverse characters that my students can relate to.
