Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach third grade in Arcadia, WI. My students are creative and eager to learn. The majority of my students are Emergent Bilinguals and come from a variety of background such as Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras. They love to come to school and are eager to learn about new things.

My students attend a public school in a district that receives Title I Funding.

Almost 50% of my students benefit from free or reduced-price lunch. Most of the students in my classroom are Emergent Bilinguals.

My Project

Having diverse books in the classroom will allow students to see themselves in the literature they read. It is important for me to provide students with books where they can learn about other perspectives, viewpoints and historical legacies of others, including people of color like themselves. I want to provide them with literature that they can connect to and make them feel validated.

I want my classroom to be a safe zone where my students can share about their culture and language.

Having diverse books supports ALL students to connect with their own cultural identity and develop important insights about others in the world.
