The materials that I am requesting will allow my students to learn in an environment where they feel comfortable. Having different places in the classroom where students can sit and work will allow them to focus for longer periods of time. By having stools, carpets and benches where students can sit in small groups will facilitate collaborative learning. The furniture that I am requesting will compliment the bean bags and stools I already have. My plan is to have different seating options for students that they can choose from. Some tables will be lowered and the area rugs will be placed under the tables. The stools will be available for students to sit at their seats as well as bean bags, balance balls and regular chairs.
Giving students choice empowers them to do well in the classroom. Having flexible seating will allow students to move and wiggle as they need in a safe way to keep their minds focused. I would like to create an welcoming environment where students feel safe and ready to learn.
