Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a first-year teacher at a brand new Title I school in East Las Vegas. My first graders come from a high needs, low-income area and many are English Language Learners.
I will have an amazing group of 26 students in the upcoming 2020-2021 school year with diverse skills and backgrounds.
First grade is a pivotal and exciting year for young learners! It is the year they build skills to create a solid foundation for the rest of their time in elementary school. It is also the year that they begin to drastically improve their reading skills which are a vital part of their learning experience. One of the ways I hope to make their learning experience fun and worthwhile is by reading stories!
My Project
Reading helps teach students about the world around them and can be a vital instrument when young children are learning and testing out morals and values.
Ultimately, my goal is to promote inclusion and kindness, and to teach children it is ok to accept differences.
This is why I want to be able to bring stories of diversity to my first-grade classroom. My classroom includes a diverse and multicultural group of students. I want to build a classroom library that honors and reflects its own diversity! A diverse classroom library will expose my students to many different cultures and backgrounds and help me achieve this goal.
