My Students
My students are predominantly low-income and/or refugees from Myanmar and Sudan; how are, as a refugee relocation city, we have students from Tanzania, Bosnia, Russia, Vietnam, Congo, Iran, China, and many other countries. It is not uncommon to have 10 or more native languages in one classroom. My students value education and their community.
Help me stock our local Little Free Library with books that reflects the diversity of our neighborhood.
I am hoping to creating and stock several Little Free Library locations throughout the community. We would normally ask the vo-tech and shop students to help us out building them, but since we aren't in school, this is a huge barrier!
My Project
We are starting a Little Free Library (the first of hopefully many) in our richly diverse community. Our community does not always have access to books because our library is a long walk from where we live. Many of our neighbors do not have cars. This will be an opportunity for them to read books with characters who look like them.
Students in my community deserve to have access to books where the characters look like they do.
