Students are scholars at our school. We set high expectations and standards for them, and they always strive to do their best. We are located in a county that has been hit hard by job loss and companies closing down. We are a diverse school, serving scholars of various socio-economic and ethnic diversity as well as levels of academic achievement backgrounds. Despite their differences and hardships, our scholars are determined and motivated to do their best. To help them do this, I want to give them access to as many resources as I can.
Our school is a Title I school, in which over 80% of the scholars receive free or reduced lunch.
The cost of supplies can add up quickly, making it difficult for scholars and their families to obtain the supplies needed to participate in the activities planned for them.
Our teachers and faculty are dedicated to helping our students feel loved and safe. We want them to feel that it is okay to take risks and think outside the box.
There is nothing better than a well-stocked library; however, we are missing several important pieces of our classroom library. Diversity! My students crave the stories that are in diverse books encompassing many different cultures and colors. My students need to be able to identify with the characters in books, as well as see books about people in a different culture or perspective.
My students need to see themselves in the books they read.
Students should be able to read books that show familiar faces and histories. I want my students to read about important people from history, of all cultural backgrounds, religions, professions and colors. We need quality books that show diversity. These books will inspire my students to empathize with people who are different and dream bigger for themselves!
