Our students are incredibly curious! They come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, and they all desire to be challenged intellectually. Students here push themselves and each other academically and socially in order to become better global citizens.
Our students are also incredibly deserving!
They not only work hard in school but also outside of school -- caring for a younger sibling, playing sports, volunteering in the community, working at after-school jobs -- so it is very important as their educator that I provide them with the tools they need to be successful!
Independent Reading is a big part of my literature courses, and I am always in search of new, exciting, and diverse books to engage my learners! Students just need ONE engaging book to hook them on reading!
Finding the right book can completely shift a student's lifelong perception of themselves as a reader.
This project has a variety of books from realistic young adult books like Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley to the bleak dystopian The Road by Cormac McCarthy, and of course many coming of age stories like Adib Khorram's Darius the Great is Not Okay and The Astonishing Color of After
by Emily X.R. Pan. There is, hopefully, a book for every student!
