My Students
My students are some of the most amazing, determined, and resilient young people I’ve ever met. I’m inspired daily by their strength and drive to do and be better for themselves. They come from unique backgrounds and a variety of socio-economic situations. However, when they enter my classroom, they know that we are all working towards a common goal- to do everything we can to make the future as bright as possible. I want to give my students the strongest possible foundation for success.
In order to achieve this, I have to push my students to be critical thinkers, problem solvers, and proficient readers.
I expect a lot from them, but I know they are more capable than they sometimes believe. As a teacher, I live for the “Aha!” moments when a difficult task suddenly makes sense and becomes easy.
My Project
As an avid reader myself, I know what an enlightening experience getting lost in a good book can be. Books provide adventures we otherwise wouldn't be able to take! Books empower us! Books make us feel like we can change the world... if we find the right one.
Many of my students think they don't enjoy reading, but I tell them they need to find the books they see themselves in to see how life-changing reading can be!
One good book can make a world of difference in the attitude they have about reading. Simply increasing their independent reading time can have a huge impact on my students' future success.
