Help me give my students books that target their culture, language and heritage. This will help them connect to the characters and feel accepted and heard.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school is a Title 1 school that serves a growing refugee population who can read in their home language and are learning English as a second language. The project will be targeted for students who are newcomers and/or struggling with speaking, listening, reading and writing in English. The funds will be used to purchase multicultural books.
When kids read books that target their culture, language and heritage, they connect to the characters and feel accepted and heard.
The goal of the project is to create change by allowing students to share their culture to increase acceptance, social belonging and pro-social behaviors.
With this project, students will have access to a variety of genre and diverse literature. These books will be available at our school library.
