We live in a rural area and due to their low incomes, many of our students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch. We have around 400 students presently enrolled in grades six through eight. Most of my students are from rural and or lower-income homes in East Tennessee.
My students are enthusiastic about exploring different genres.
Most of my students do not have an abundance of books in their homes. Our library provides books and materials requested by the students that their parents are unable to provide for them.
My Project
My students have been requesting biographies. In order to improve our school's collection, we need more diverse titles. My students are eager to learn about different cultures and diverse backgrounds.
Diverse biographies are an integral part of any library collection.
In order to make our library's collection relevant, our biography selection desperately needs updating. Diverse reading materials will improve my students understanding of people with different religions, races and socio-economic statuses.
My students desire to choose books that interest them. The only way they will improve their reading skills is by reading more. These books will help improve their reading abilities and expose them to more diverse people.
