I have a wonderful class of 20 second graders this year in California, who are extremely eager to learn! I believe that all children can learn and that it is my responsibility, as an educator, to provide students with equal opportunities to learn. Our school believes that by empowering our students, we provide them with opportunities to become successful members of society. 78% of students who attend my school are students of poverty and 50% of students in my class are second language learners. This is why we need your help in providing developmentally appropriate learning experiences through a variety of ways to give my students a fair chance at being successful!
At my school, we are extremely limited with supplies. Since I have such a passion for my students to become successful readers, I have already started a classroom library, learning centers, and reading games for them, which is funded through my personal paycheck. Given the diversity in the classroom today, it is essential for me to provide a variety of reading opportunities for my students.
Through the requested supplies, my students will have a wonderful opportunity to excel in the area of Language Arts. Since the majority of my students are English Language Learners, they need to experience language and reading throughout the day in as many fun and exciting ways as possible. With the increase of illiteracy throughout our country, it is fundamental for students to gain a love of reading. Many English Language Learners tend to fall behind in the area of Language Arts and Reading because they are not provided with sufficient experiences.
Through your help, I know that my students can further their enthusiasm for reading and become successful in whatever comes their way in life. My students need to have a variety of language experiences throughout the school day.
