My Students
"We can't wait to be back!" was a quote I heard more than once this summer. As an art teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, I know my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many are being raised by grandparents.
Despite the many challenges they face, my students are creative and enthusiastic to learn.
These circumstances that are beyond their control limit them from having life experiences many of us see as "typical." In my classroom, they are able to experience where art might take them, drawing, painting, and creating in three dimensions as well as learning about artists, many of whom had circumstances that they can relate to. All contribute to an art program that encourages thinking and problem solving, explores diversity, and excites the students.
My Project
In a world turned upside down by all types of drama, children still need to learn. Whether it be in person or via the internet, the best teaching practices utilize modeling.
The document camera I am requesting will link the virtual school room to the actual one by continuing the learning model they are accustomed to which is demonstration.
When I introduce a new concept I link it to what we previously learned through items such as a storybook. Using the document camera I can do that. As the project moves along, I can demonstrate techniques.
