Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This school year I have been teaching Spanish to 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders. Students are bright, caring, and driven but now with no classroom, I lack resources that can benefit students.
I aspire to provide my students the little, but big things that make a difference.
I ask for this to support the next couple of months and give my kids the resources that will help them succeed during this time.
My Project
My students thrive on collaborative, interactive work. These materials will allow students to be more interactive and accountable while we work from a distance due to COVID-19 pandemic. In my classroom, the projector is a very effective visual tool for students to associate new spoken material with visual cues - especially in a Spanish classroom.
The use of the projector will allow students to associate new vocabulary words as we learn with images that I will be able to project on a screen behind me as I demonstrate the activities through a webcam.
It is a great resource because learning a new language requires visuals to associate words, structures and other cultural aspects to the Spanish language.
Also, the portable printer I have requested will be used in a final project for my Spanish 3 class. Due to Covid-19 maintaining a healthy mental state is very important and 30 of my students will be asked to create a collage that demonstrates their personal coping mechanisms during this time through images and inspirational quotes. The portable printer will allow me to send to their homes my coping mechanisms through images and then the students will incorporate my personal images to their own creative collage project for the end of the semester. This would hopefully allow my students to realize that even though we lack have face-to-face interactions, I am trying to keep some sort of connection.
I believe that having these resources will allow students to continue growing as scholars and collaborative thinkers in our distance learning space.
