Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come to school daily with a desire to learn. They bring with them a passion to tackle whatever the day has in store. They work hard to achieve their goals. This particular group is the inaugural cohort in a Dual Language Program: they spend 50% of the time learning in English and the other 50% in Spanish. Because of this, they have a keen sense of global awareness.
My students come from varying ethnic backgrounds, and have learned to embrace and celebrate diversity since kindergarten.
They are a diverse group that embodies the melting pot that our community is well known for.
My Project
My students love to play and learn. They are making the best of the pandemic by putting their best foot forward. Because of this, I try to incorporate many learning tools in the classroom. I would like to have Boom cards to provide them with meaningful work in both languages. Boom cards can be purchased through Teachers Pay Teachers. It is important for me to give my students ample and meaningful activities that they can do at home, with paper activities/worksheets, boom cards, & interactive pdfs
Having access to the latest educational technology that is informative is essential to helping them grow as learners.
Each card in a Boom deck is self-correcting and it gives immediate feedback to the students about their choices. Each deck can show the teacher which concepts the student has mastered, and how long it is taking them to get the correct answer on the card. This gives the teacher a very helpful tool which in turn, informs our instruction and helps in planning next steps. Knowing that my students understand and can apply certain skills means that we can focus more on the things they need to work on.
