Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a dual language kindergarten teacher in Los Angeles, California to 25 students. My students live in East Los Angeles a community that's about 5 minutes from Downtown Los Angeles. My school is a Title I school; 100% of the students receive free meals.

The students from my class are primarily children of immigrants; most of the students the parents are undocumented.

The others are first-generation immigrant children. They are learning English and Spanish in my classroom and I want to be able to continue their learning at home through distance learning. Due to the current Coronavirus pandemic, we cannot be physically together, but I want to continue to deliver to them engaging lessons at home so that they can continue learning. We are required to teach our students via Zoom, and the Chromebook that I have does not allow for me to do Zoom and share screen so that I can teach my lessons.

My Project

In order for me as the teacher to be able to continue to teach and work from home in these unusual circumstances of distance learning, I need a reliable laptop. I need to be able to work on lessons, be able to present the lessons to my students. I need to be able to share my screen with the students, and the chromebook that I have does not allow for it.

I want to be able to engage my students and keep them learning at home, and to continue with the distance learning at home I need to be equipped with the adequate technology to teach and learn.
