Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are currently learning at home due to COVID-19. My students have various needs; some have disabilities, some have social emotional needs, some need extra supports and some simply need to be challenged. All of my students learn differently and have different resources at home to support them during this time.
My Project
On March 13th, we had to leave the classroom as we knew it, and our lives flipped upside down in a matter of days. My students left their materials in the classroom and we did not realize we would be learning online. My students would greatly benefit from an abundance materials that might often be overlooked, but so vital to instruction. The document camera will help me project work for them onto our google meets. The paper will be used to make anchor charts, and to mail important notices and classroom newsletters home. It's important for my visual learners to have opportunities to see the charts as they are learning. The laminating sheets will be used to send home bitmojis of myself to the scholars so that they can learn.. with me! The pencils and pencil cases will be used to send home to the scholars so that they can have something to write with. After all, some students love taking notes or writing in a notebook, but might not have any pencils at home since we left abruptly. The dry erase board, paper and vinyl will help me turn my space at home into more of a classroom and less of a home. I'd love to send the students the bracelets to remind them that although we are far, we are still together in our hearts.
All of the materials will be used to assist scholars and myself while teaching English Language Arts online.
We are learning reading, writing and social studies and these materials will truly go a very long way.
