Distance Learning Math and Science

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach 2nd grade at a title 1 school. Each of my students qualify for free lunch and breakfast because they live in low income homes. My students are all eager to learn and really have a love for it. Although they all learn in different ways, they always want to help each other within the classroom and outside the classroom. My students are what drive me every single day to not only be a better person, but a better teacher.

My Project

I was very saddened to hear we wouldn't be going back to school for the rest of the year. Instead we will be continuing our distance learning adventure until next year. Because my students live in very low socioeconomic homes they don't have the same resources available to them as other students.

A lot of my students don't have access to our online classroom so I wanted to create little goodie bags full of materials they can have at home to help them practice their math, science, and STEM skills without needing the internet to do so.

I asked for playing cards and dice so they can practice their math fluency facts in a fun way. I asked for rulers because my students do not have this resource at home to help them with their homework. The magnets and the magnifying glasses are to help the students with their science and explore the world around them. Finally I asked for Legos and the connecting flakes to let them have opportunities building things to encourge their STEM skills.
