Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are curious, passionate, dedicated learners in the third grade. Our academy's goal is to provide a safe and emotionally secure learning environment. In addition, we focus on real-world skills, problem-solving, and how to be a good citizen.

My scholars are a creative and innovative group.

Though the transition to distance learning has been a challenge for them, they have met these challenges with resilience, patience, and grace. Due to specific students' needs, and dependent upon access to materials, students have been learning through a combination of online learning, phone calls, mailed packets, and one-on-one collaboration with me.

My Project

When COVID-19 hit our state, schools were closed for two weeks. We did not know at the time that the closure would be extended until the end of the school year, and that our scholars would be learning from home for the remainder of the year.

My scholars have met the challenges of distance learning with resilience, grace, and understanding.

They have worked incredibly hard. Depending on student ability and access to technology, students are learning in a variety of ways including watching online videos, completing work mailed to their house, learning over the phone one-on-one, and more.

I hope to ensure that every scholar has access to quality, engaging, fun resources that will help them continue to learn while we are away from the school building. With this Teachers Pay Teachers gift card, I will be able to purchase interactive lessons from two different content creators that can be integrated into our Google Classroom page. These will include interactive grammar lessons, math review, map skills and civics review, and even science experiments! I will also be able to purchase licenses for print versions of similar materials to send to scholars who do not have internet access during distance learning.
