Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a diverse first grade, integrated collaborative teaching (ICT) class, with a combined mixture of general and special education students at a large, high-needs, Title One school in the north Bronx. Although the majority of students come from low-income homes or from homes with limited parental school-involvement, they are enthusiastic and truly come to school everyday, ready to learn. These children see school as a consistent part of their daily lives and strive daily to make me proud.

My twenty-four, first graders are some of the happiest children I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

Not only do several of them struggle with unstable home lives, but many cope with various disabilities, such as ADHD, autism, and speech and language impairments. These kids inspire me to provide the best education I can for them.

My Project

Boom cards are a fun and interactive way for students to learn everything from letter and number identification to executive functioning and reading comprehension. Having a membership to BoomLearning will allow me to assign cards to my students that they can complete in school or remote, and be able to collect data and assess progress. Teachers Pay Teacher has many of the boom decks as well as a specialized curriculum designed for my students. These two resources will make learning in schools or at home more accessible for all students and their families. We are also requesting stylus pens for the students so they can more easily navigate the digital assignments on Google Classroom. Having stylus pens will make it easier for them to write and draw on the assignments.
