This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of minds to think."

My students are a highly vulnerable population, many facing socioeconomic struggles each day with as many as 80% receiving free or reduced-price meals at school.

Many of my students face additional hardship because of their limited knowledge of the English language and some have added educational challenges making learning a struggle. Additionally, some of these children have limited access, if any, to technology at home.

During these trying times, teachers are working tirelessly to serve our students in a way that will support a successful future, while ensuring that our students are receiving a high-quality education.

My goal as an educator is to be able to deliver that high level of education with the support of technology in a safe and productive way!

My Project

Teaching is an art, and in these difficult times of the Pandemic, Distance Learning is our only option. I am a public elementary school teacher in the Miami-Dade District, which at the moment is the epicenter of this Pandemic. Teachers have been teaching virtually since mid-March and it has been a challenge to deliver quality education given our personal limited resources. I teach 4th & 5th grade Math and it has been extremely difficult to teach Math to my students, without a Promethean board, in a virtual classroom. Having a Microsoft Surface Laptop would enable me to teach all of my 80+ students in a manner that would effectively transmit the curriculum they need to learn in a much more effective manner. Getting this project funded would allow me to have a teaching tool where I can write on the screen and do computations for my students to get the education they need to be successful this school year.
