Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the youngest students at my school site. Our elementary school is comprised of students in PreK-5th grade. We are a Title I school and all students qualify for free lunch. Our school population is comprised of 98% Latino students and has a high percentage of English Language Learners. For most of my students, this is their first schooling experience. More than half of my class are English Language Learners.
My students are happy, energetic, 4 to 5-year-old students who are always ready to learn.
They enjoy singing, dancing, and playing together and don't realize how much they are learning from each other. They are learning to become independent learners and follow school rules. I greet them every morning with happy smiles, ready to see what our day has in store for them. This will continue even through distance learning.
My Project
These materials will all help keep the arts and creativity alive during our distance learning. I will decorate and use the tote bags to send the students all their art materials. The tote bags will be personalized and will be used as an organizational tool for students to keep their art materials. I will be able to send my students scented playdoh home so they can build and mold. Using playdoh will help their little hands develop strong fine motor skills. Also the scented playdoh will allow the students to use their senses while molding and creating a variety of things.
Giving my students a variety of art materials will enhance their distance learning in a fun and creative way.
We used to have all these materials in the classroom to learn through play and art. The glimmer shapes, felt shapes and sequence will allow the students to use more of their creativity to make patterns. They will be able to build math skills by sorting and counting many collections.
The paints will be sent home in small containers to allow the students to enjoy painting at home. We will have time to share their painting and develop more oral skills as they describe their pieces of art and share with one another.
