Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This will be my 17th year teaching in a specialty NYC public high school. During a regular school year, my students travel from all five boroughs of NYC in order to pursue their passion. They are diverse in all ways possible and each bring something different to the classroom. My students are some of the most talented and creative young minds that I have always had the pleasure of working with.
I feel fortunate to work with wonderful young adults that motivate me daily to stay creative and engaging in my teaching style.
Generally, my students have been incredible about adapting to the new normal of blended remote learning. In turn, I would like to do my best as a teacher to make their learning experience as amazing as possible.
My Project
As a math teacher, one of my main objectives is to make concepts clear and relevant to the real world. In order to do this, I often use various platforms and demonstrations in the classroom. Because I will now be teaching remotely, it is important to me that I am still able to do this for my students.
During these turbulent times, my goal is to keep the classroom as interactive, fun, and relevant as it is when we are teaching and learning in person.
These devices will allow me to simultaneously teach my students using these various platforms while holding synchronous discussions with the entire class.
For example, with some of my senior classes (students that will be heading out into the real world), I like to do a unit on mortgages and building credit. Using this technology, I will be able to show them some real life examples of how these concepts work in reality using simultaneous screens.
