My students are mostly low income and our school is one of the most culturally diverse in the city of Philadelphia. We are a melting pot of different languages, religions etc...
What makes my students special is that most of them are going to be the first generation in their families to attend college.
Their parents are working two jobs in some cases to make a better life for their kids. My students represent not only their dreams but the dreams of their parents.
My Project
My students are mostly low income first generation to possibly go to college. Our district cannot provide the necessary materials to facilitate an excellent laboratory experience. This project allows me to introduce my students to a myriad of topics including, genetics (using living organisms), mammalian anatomy and animal behavior. This would not be possible without these materials. In addition, the technology that is part of this project will be a game changer. Many of my students do not have access to technology at home. These laptops will provide over a 100 students with the ability to do research, complete tutorials, build computer graphing skills- just to name a few of the positive outcomes.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
