My Students
I teach Freshman biology and one of the labs that students most look forward to doing is dissection owl pellets. They love constructing the skeletons and identifying what type of animal the owl ate. They are totally engaged the entire time!
My Project
If students are learning remotely, their opportunities to participate in hands-on labs will be severely limited. Owl Pellets are something they can safely dissect at home with readily available household supplies. Students can research the process of how owls eat and produce pellets; and they can research what type of prey owls eat during asynchronous learning days. On an synchronous learning day, students can participate in a classroom Zoom call with me and we can dissect together. So many students benefit from hands-on experiences, it would be a shame if they missed out.
