My Project

I am excited to create a two-year IB curriculum for 11th and 12th graders called "Disrupting a Dystopia: Reimagining the Future," and I need your support to bring it to life. Through carefully selected texts, we will explore the impact of technology, authoritarianism, environmental crises, and resilience, guiding students to reflect on their roles in shaping a more hopeful future.

This curriculum aims to immerse students in powerful science fiction literature to help them think critically about the future and imagine alternative ways our society might function.

Our curriculum will feature Cixin Liu's The Three Body Problem, a novel exploring humanity’s first contact with extraterrestrial life and the ethical challenges it poses. Yoko Ogawa's The Memory Police will help students examine themes of authoritarian control and memory, questioning how societies erase or distort history. Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake and The Handmaid’s Tale bring an exploration of environmental collapse and reproductive control, inviting students to consider the consequences of unchecked scientific advancements and oppressive social systems.

These novels serve not just as captivating stories but as portals for students to question and rethink their world. Through these readings, students will discuss essential questions like: How do we balance comfort and solidarity? How can we risk individual security to ensure a just society? By examining dystopian scenarios, students will also imagine "eutopian" alternatives, where communities emphasize sustainability, justice, and equity.

This curriculum will develop students’ analytical skills and their ethical awareness, preparing them to engage with complex real-world issues. Your support will help provide the resources needed to launch this program, equipping students to be active, thoughtful participants in creating a better, more inclusive future.
