Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Internships change students' lives. My seventy eleventh-grade ESL students at Brooklyn International High School are all recent immigrants, coming from thirty different countries and speaking twenty different native languages. They are currently in the middle of their required junior-year internships at a variety of sites--the New York Supreme Court, Prospect Park Zoo, elementary schools, hospitals, Donors Choose, to name a few. The internships provide them with work experience and help to build their English skills. We conclude with a fair, where students present their experiences to other students, faculty, family, and community. I would like thirty-five disposable cameras and the film processing fees to help students document their exciting first work experiences. The photos they take will be used in their fair presentations and will provide them with lasting memories of this defining experience. Thank you for considering this proposal.
