This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Mesa schools were recent recipients of 9,000 laptops which will give my students an equitable way to access online learning. Currently my district has released that online learning will continue until it is determined safe to resume in person learning. We will actively be engaging on online platforms, such as Canvas and Webex, for meetings and to go over new material, and to check in with each other. In addition, I am recording lessons at home for them to view and continue to learn new material. Please help me to obtain a document camera that will give my students a better learning experience in the midst of distance learning.
My Project
A document camera can give my students a better look at any item or document I want to show them, especially for the tiniest details on a piece of paper or on an object. By having a document camera, it will improve learning experiences, especially for my students who learn best with hands-on work and presentations. Equally important, a document camera can make story time come alive and ensure all students can see the pictures, as a result, my students will be more engaged with the story. My classroom document camera will also be an invaluable tool when I want to display in-class writing and go over it with my students.
I love to teach with math manipulatives!
These amazing educational tools teach students math basics such as counting, arithmetic, and pattern recognition while also honing their fine motor skills. Coupled with the document camera, I can use my interactive display to model the task for my students before they try it for themselves. I can also create a pattern with foam color tiles for my students to copy. The possibilities are endless.Younger students can benefit from a tactile aspect of learning, and document cameras can give them an easy way to do this.
Lastly, when we are back in person in the classroom, the document camera will be an asset to show-and-tell. Students love show-and-tell and it is a classic elementary activity that encourages even the most reluctant students to share a little more about their lives. Often the entire classroom can’t really see what’s being shown. The next time my student proudly brings in a seashell or favorite toy, it can be displayed on the document camera so the whole class can see it
