Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When our students walk into the building every morning, their smiling faces let us know they are ready and excited to learn! In our school, we have a very diverse group of learners with different learning and social-emotional needs. Many of our students are students with special needs as well as English Language Learners. Due to the financial hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, many students' families do not have access to hard copies of books nor the financial means to purchase them. We know that there are so many ways technology can help students learn to read, however, nothing can replace the joy of holding and reading a book you love! Reading not only allows children to bond with family members, but also encourages imaginative play while providing countless opportunities for language development.
My Project
This will be a school-wide incentive program. Students will earn coins and will use the coins to go to a Bookworm Book vending machine. This Bookworm Vending Machine will not take money, but will use tokens that students can earn in numerous ways. The vending machine will be loaded with up to date and current books for students.
This school-wide incentive program will be used to promote a love of reading and to celebrate students' success in becoming not only amazing readers, but amazing people as well.
Students can earn tokens by being STARS. When we are STARS we show Self-control, are Trustworthy, Accountable, Respectful, and Supportive. Goodbye to candy and toy prizes, this vending machine will cultivate a love of reading and hopefully help to cultivate life long readers.
