Disney Planet Challenge Sends It On with Activote!
My students need Activote (a learner response system) to share their butterfly passion with other students and to inspire them to make a positive change in our world.

My Students
"He is so excited about the butterfly garden!" "She loves writing about the butterfly garden!" "He loves science since you started the butterfly garden." These were the most common statements I heard from parents at parent-teacher conferences last week. Now we want to send that attitude on.
I teach a fabulous group of fourth grade students at a fine and performing arts charter school.
The area in which they live has felt the crash of the American auto industries in a very real and heartbreaking way. However, you would never know that by watching my students. They have such a zest for life and a philanthropic spirit. They want to give back, and they also want more "nature" in their lives. We have students from over twenty different communities in our school. Although these students come from several different communities, every city in our area has one thing in common: almost every "paradise" has been paved and covered with a parking lot (or some other urban structure).
My Project
My students are going to use Activote to create interactive lessons to inspire other classes to want to help our environment. The first thing we are planning on doing is using Activote to make a student-created presentation about butterflies more interactive to keep the attention of the audience. They will use Activote to "poll the audience," much like you see on talk shows and game shows. After the butterfly presentations are complete, Activote will continue to be an invaluable resource to my class, keeping my students' attention and allowing me to check their understanding frequently.
I am thrilled that we are doing something to make a difference in our Earth.
However, I am ecstatic that this Disney project has inspired my students. I am not exaggerating when I say that many of the parents were more interested in this butterfly garden than anything else. (I do have a great class, so most parents didn't have to worry about report cards anyway.) Regardless, I was floored when I realized what an impact this project was having on the students. YOU can help them send it on!
