Disney Environmental Math/Science Community Garden
My students need science supplies like beakers, pots, and seads to plant our own gardens at our school. We will also be doing experiments with water and candy.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like to get excited about doing experiments in your classroom? Well we are encorporating environmental science, math, and community envollment by growing our own vegetables, taking measurements , and then harvesting them and donating them to a local food bank.
My students attend a Title One low income choice school.
These students need to apply to come to this public school and agree to maintain a B average in their magnet program. Most students are enrolled in Pre-med, Pre-engineering, Environmental Science, or Computer Technology.
My Project
My students want to see that they can make an impact on the environment. We will be encorporating their environmental class and math class to do just that. We will plant a community garden, take care of it, and then harvest the vegetables and donate them to a local food bank. We will also be using the other supplies of candy, balloons, and science equipment to do water purification experiments.
It is important for my students to see that they can make a difference in their environment.
They can actually take pride in their hard work by watching it over time and then seeing that the fruits of their labor can benefit other people in our community. We will also be doing numerous environmental experiments with the science beakers, water pictures, and candy.
