Discovering our INNER WRITER with Writer's Notebooks!

My students need spiral bound notebooks to use as journals for writing success, as we discover our inner writer and masterpieces.

My Students

The 100 seventh and eighth-grade students in my gifted and talented classroom are anxious to learn and willing to stand up to the challenges I present to them in class.

Our class motto is: "I'm not telling you it's going to be easy, I'm telling you it's going to be worth it!" It is this motto that leads our instructional time.

They attend a public school in Ohio and have a variety of different backgrounds -- both financially and culturally. Despite this, they have one thing in common, they have parents and guardians who support the strive for academic success and personal growth.

My Project

Students need to find their voice, they need to see themselves as writers. In order to do this, we will be embracing the writer's notebook model in class this year.

These journals will empower them to discover the joy in the written word.

These notebooks will provide the students the space to engage in the writing process, use mentor texts for models, and to free write. As a teacher I will model the process for the students, and we will find our inner writer together.

Writing is an integral part of life and so many students have stories to tell. Using the notebooks will allow the students to see future possibilities.
