My Students

This is my first year to teach STEM full-time! My position reaches students ranging from Pre-K to 5th grade who are from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. I love greeting them in the mornings and seeing the sweet smiles as they start their school day. These children are at many different intellectual and ability levels. Our district has hundreds of students classified as homeless. Some of our students have language challenges due to being ELL. We have many children in military families, since our location is less than a mile from a military base.

We are a Title I school with 80% of the students eligible for the free or reduced lunch program.

Our school is part of a backpack program through the regional food bank that sends food home on the weekends. I know many come to school without supplies that children in higher income schools might be able to bring. I want to make sure that all are given positive experiences and opportunities in my classroom that will help them realize their potential and prepare them for the future they deserve.

My Project

These items will be used for our maker space activities in my classroom.

In this innovative approach to learning, students are given many ways to invent and create as they develop crucial problem-solving skills.

Extra supplies are needed to give these hundreds of children opportunities for creating, exploring, building, and experimenting. Concepts in art, math, physics, & engineering will be introduced while also developing dexterity & spatial awareness. Because many times they will be working with others, students will learn how to collaborate with their partners. The Maker Space Tool Kits and other supply packs will allow students to create with real-working tools and even include safety goggles. The Electrical Components Pack and Wire Pack have battery packs, buzzers, motors, and wires to make things run. The STEM Nonfiction Book Set allows us to explore careers using these high-interest books. The Expo Markers will be used to draw plans and write ideas directly on the Pockets.

My students will be gaining valuable skills that will last them into their adult lives. I hope you will consider a donation to this project to help us stock up our creativity area.
