My Students

My three-year-olds are some of the most amazing children I have ever met. They thrive while living in one of the most dangerous communities in our nation's capital. Some have gone through more in their young lives than many of us will ever have to endure in a lifetime. Now in the "new normal", they can't even escape to the sanctuary of school to escape the violence that riddles their neighborhood. Despite all of the challenges they face, they have still taken a leap into the unknown of virtual learning to begin their educational journey.

My students blossom with the educational and enrichment opportunities being offered, which helps them to build their background knowledge and exposes them to things they otherwise wouldn't be exposed to.

For all of them, school is where they have opportunities to build their academic and social foundations and set them up for success later in life.

My Project

Our discovery center is a place where students can plan, explore, and solve problems. It's a place where students can discovery how to make things work and happen. Currently, they have a lack a materials that give them the opportunity to discover and problem solve. These materials will give students what they need to try different strategies to solve different problems.

The gears and tubes will provide days of endless exploration and discovery for students.

The gears will be used during our buildings and simple machines studies. Students will have the opportunity to learn first hand how to build and working gear system to move things from point A to point B. The tubes and balls will be used during our ball and tubes and tunnels units. During balls, students will be able to explore how to make a ball roll faster or slower. During the tubes and tunnels, they will get a chance to explore further how to connect them to get the balls from the top to the bottom. Both sets of materials will allow for students to use their problem solving, creative, and discovery skills to make things work.
