This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine going all day long without a tangible outlet to allow your creativity to flow?

I have about 500 students from grades Kindergarten through Third Grade.

75% are economically disadvantaged and many tell me they don't even have access to crayons at home. They are all nice kids that have a story to tell. They love to draw and create and express their struggles and release their stresses through artwork.

My Project

We need paper, crayons, paint, and brushes. The basics to allow the children to experiment with different mediums in art. They will learn that they can create beautiful and interesting things when given the opportunity. This class will build their self esteem and in turn give them the strength to take risks in their academics.

The arts are always the first to go and it is proven they are so vital to a student's academic achievement.

I am not asking for a raise or recognition, I just want to provide my students with an opportunity to surprise themselves. The looks on their faces when the are solving problems and completing tasks are priceless. It is unfortunate that these children were not exposed to the arts before but the chance is here for them now. I just need the basic supplies to help me do it!
