My students need a field trip to Discovery Science Center where they can have a total hands-on experience in physical, life, and earth science.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
For numerous years, we have taken our 2nd-grade students to the Natural History Museum to culminate our insect and fossil units. In addition to a trip to the NHM, I would like to give them a new experience in science investigation and exploration at the Discovery Science Center.
My students are "sponges," soaking up everything they learn in class.
Most of them learn through investigation, experimentation, and inquiry. Because of this, I believe that my students will gain valuable knowledge and experiences if they have more than one educational field trip per school-year.
In our school district, bus funding is always an issue when it comes to field trips. This limits our students to the number of museums that they visit throughout their elementary years. For some students, their parents are able to take them to different museums on their own. For others, school field trips are the only experiences they get.
Knowing that I have future scientists in the classroom, I would like to expose them to different venues where they can do their investigation and exploration. This will also serve as an introduction to their future museum visits.
My Project
The objective of our field trip to the Discovery Science Center is to give my students an opportunity to extend their studies about dinosaurs. The museum has a permanent dinosaur exhibit, called Dino Quest, where students can explore inside a giant, two-story-tall, long-neck dinosaur. They will have the chance to manipulate the organs of the dinosaur and learn how the dinosaur's body systems work and relate to each other. They will also get a chance to conduct research like paleontologists as they explore the Dino Quest exhibit.
This field trip is very important because it will give my students an opportunity to explore science in a whole new arena. It will also encourage them to go for another visit with their families to further expand their interest in science, as the museum provides different exhibits throughout the year.
Students will benefit directly from the proposed field trip because the museum provides for all types of learners; from visual, auditory, to kinesthetic.
The various areas of the museum provide more than 100 hands-on exhibits where the students can freely explore and interact. Since this might be a new museum for the students, they will definitely be encouraged to bring their families back for more scientific fun!
