Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am currently teaching fifth grade, my school is located in Sandy (Utah) and is part of the DLI program. I have 50 amazing students.
My two classes are very hardworking and always ready to work hard no matter what, even if sometimes it's hard for them speaking in Spanish half of the day.
They are very active therefore it's a big challenge to teach them in Spanish. I love their creativity and the different ways they have to approach problems.
Learning a second language its not easy, specially when you learn not only the language but different subjects. It's a great program, and it works. Is their fifth year learning in DLI, the target language is Spanish and they can speak fluently about a great variety of topics.
They are always eager to learn new things and I really love when they learn something new and they put their surprise face.
This is why I am applying for this program, so I can have a wide variety of resources to teach Science and Spanish.
My Project
I am a new Spanish teacher in the USA. My school participates in an incredible Dual Immersion Program, but since it is my first year I don't have a lot of materials in my class that would help my students to learn better.
I need a variety of resources to make my class more attractive to my students, such as class games, science materials and I would love to implement a STEAM project with a Makey Makey Invention Kit.
I am teaching Science and my students love it. It's really hard to understand science in Spanish when it's not your first language, but they make it so easy and I want to help them to understand these concepts by teaching in a more attractive way. I want them to experience science, put their hands-on activities by using this 4M Kitchen Science Kit.
Children learn by playing games, it's always been this way and in languages it's even more important to get children engaged in activities. This is why I want to bring the students on board by playing this games Pressman Chess, Battleship, Connect 4 Game, Ocho locos and Guess Who and practicing Spanish in the classroom.
Finally as a part of a STEAM project, I want to use Makey Makey an Invention Kit for Everyone. Innovation is crucial nowadays and it's very important to apply that in our classrooms. Students need to discover, think and live new experiences everyday.
