Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The children that I am fortunate enough to instill a love of learning in, come from very diverse backgrounds with various unique abilities. Most of my students come from economically disadvantaged homes. Our school is considered to be a Title I school, with all students receiving free lunch. Over 50 percent of the students in my classroom are English Language Learners.

Although my students face many challenges outside of school, their ability to persevere at school amazes me.

Our school currently uses the 365Z Kindness Educational Program to advocate acts of kindness throughout the school and community. My students exemplify what it means to be compassionate and thoughtful on a daily basis.

All of my students strive to become the best learners possible. Through rigorous and engaging activities, all students show outstanding growth in first grade.

My Project

With the ongoing demand to provide students with a sound foundation of literacy and mathematic skills so that students are prepared for these high stakes tests, it seems that science is often pushed to the side. Having a strong understanding of various science standards, will set students up for more robust literacy and mathematic skills.

I firmly belief that students learn more through hands on, engaging activities, rather than whole group, teacher led activities.

The materials in this project will allow students to work together to solve problems related to science. It will also allow students the opportunity to conduct an inquiry, and will provide students will concrete evidence.

The Kaplan Classroom Science Set and the Hands-On Science and Math Kit with provide students with the materials needed to conduct the various science experiments. The Complete Specimen Set, Grow Your Own Lily Pad, Animal Tracks, Butterfly Garden Set, and Animal and Nature Poster Set will all be used in our Life Science activities and will increase student's understanding of various life cycles. The Tuning Fork Kit and Shatterproof Safety Mirrors will be used in our light and sound experiments. The activity journals and flat activity trays will be used throughout all science units. The journals will provide students with the opportunity to record information from all science investigations.
