Do you know Jocko Willink? An ex Navy SEAL, Jocko is a motivational speaker and author who encourages growth through self discipline. The concept he focuses on is "Discipline equals Freedom." This novel follows a young student who learns how self discipline can set him free from the things that worry him in school, at home, and with his peers. Through self discipline, the main character learns that hard work pays off!
In our classes we work with students who need a lot of extra support in academics.
These students are in a special program designed to provide additional resources for each child, as individuals, specifically tailored to their academic, social, and emotional needs. Reading this novel will reinforce the concept that it's okay for things to be challenging, because what matters is how we handle the challenges.
Way of the Warrior Kid connects to building social skills, character development, and all things English. In their Leadership class, students will focus on comparing themselves to themselves rather than to others, and how the power to grow is theirs alone. They will also complete physical and interpersonal challenges, such as activity tracking and a handshake and speech contest. Additionally, the novel will reinforce English concepts such as reading fluency, theme, character development, figurative language, and writing skills.
